.Before updating our forthcoming programme I would like to draw your attention to the item below re The Seaman's Church in Hull.
Skt. Nicolaj Seaman's Church in Hull
We are invited to join the members of the Church in their annual events and news of forthcoming events will be published here.
This is now only one of two Danish Churches still open in the UK, and one of only a handful of Scandinavian Churches. To keep it open it does need the support of the local Scandanavians
The church is not solely used for religious purposes. Apart from a church service every month after which lovely Danish food is served; the church can also be used for functions, weddings, funerals etc , and although the service is mainly in Danish the new pastor is keen that any English speakers should also be able to follow and take part.
On the social side there are lessons in Danish and Swedish.
and several very enjoyable social events. Fastelavn is celebrated by both young and old., Snkt. Hans (Midsummer) is enjoyed by all with a barbecue and bonfire party, and during January there is a New Year service followed by lunch and a video of the Danish Queens New Year speech. There are also showings of Scandanavian films. And every year a Christmas Market is held
which is the main means of funding for the Church.
As stated before, the church does need your support, especially now, when the church in Denmark is cutting funding. Details of all events can be got through the church
You can always subscribe to become a member of the church and receive their newsletter. The e-mail address is hull@dsuk.dk

The SKOL AGM
The date and venue have still to be agreed and I would remind you that Kari, after 34 years as our Chairman, has decided to stand down as our Chairman. We hope to be able to arrange it in the Guildhall where SKOL sprang into life 34 years ago and we will let you know when arrangements have been agreed.
COSCAN goes to Shetland
The Shetland Norwegian Society has invited COSCAN to visit Shetland from 23-26 April 2010 and I am pleased to report that, as usual, SKOL will be well represented. Arrangements will be made by the Society and COSCAN’s next event will be arranged by Kari (still at it) in Copenhagen in 2011. More on this in due course!
The SKOL Midsummer Party
It is proposed that the SKOL Midsummer Party is held on 19 or 20 June 2010 this year. This will avoid any possible clash of dates with the Hull Church Gox Hill event and will be really close to the Summer Solstice. More on this in due course!
